Portfolio – Weaving
The common thread in my woven scarves is the use of two warps, the first of which forms the foundation for the second warp’s pattern. The contrasts in my weaving are fascinating: the ground cloth of the simplest weave structure vs. the interwoven complex pattern; the oversize representation of the design on screen or graph paper vs. the actual average of ninety warp threads per inch; the slow initial design and tedious warping processes vs. the more rapid weaving; my love of vivid color vs. my joy in weaving all white designs; and in broader terms, an artist’s rather capricious lifestyle (one never knows when inspiration will hit) vs. one which is dictated solely by the clock.
